The ambiance is enchanting, with a lodge-like feel that perfectly marries cozy German architecture with the serene beauty of Carson National Forest. As you step inside, you'll be greeted with warmth, making it an ideal refuge after a day of hiking or skiing. The menu at The Bavarian is a feast for the senses. Whether you're indulging in a classic Pork Schnitzel Sandwich or savoring the rich flavors of Grass Fed Beef Burger, every bite promises authenticity and satisfaction. The dish that has garnered much attention is the Spatzle, a traditional German dish that embodies the comfort of home-cooked food. Pair these dishes with an impressive selection of local ciders and beers, such as the HackerPschorr Weissbier or New Belgium Fat Tire Amber, and you have a true culinary experience that immerses you in the heart of Bavarian culture.
But that's not all—desserts like the Ice Cream Sundae ensure your meal ends on a sweet note. With ample options for sharing, the appetizers offer a chance to sample a variety of flavors, making The Bavarian perfect for families and groups alike. It's no wonder a past guest described it as a scene straight out of a romantic series, perfectly reflecting the restaurant's charm.
Outdoor seating adds to the allure, allowing you to enjoy your meal while soaking in the stunning vistas. As you sip on a Black Mesa Honey Hard Cider and relish the moment, it’s easy to see why so many guests, like Bailey Elkins, feel the call to return. “ Great restaurant at the slopes in Taos Ski Village. The atmosphere is great! Food was good and served quickly. Mountain views all around. ”
“ I felt like I stepped into a scene from Virgin River. After a long day of hiking, this hit the spot. Good food with local cider was the perfect way to wind the day down. Outdoor seating with an outdoor bar allows you to really enjoy being in Taos. We are already talking about another trip back! ”
“ The Bavarian is an outstanding authentic German restaurant. The food was outstanding, the inside of the restaurant had a lodge like feel to it and was really neat. It's a little slow in Taos during the summer but the Bavarian was somewhat crowded when we had our late lunch there so you know that's a good sign if the locals like it there! Must be a madhouse during ski season. ”
“ What an awesome place and at a perfect location at the bottom of lift 4! Whether winter or summer, no matter what activity stirs up an appetite, it’s easy to come straight here and get a decent meal! Better yet, by the time we ordered to when we got our food, it was maybe 15 minutes? Even if you do have to wait, there is a large drink selection of local ciders and beers, as well as non alcoholic drinks. The menu has something for everyone, and the dessert menu has variety, too! Our food was delicious, and there was a thing that tasted off or poor to us. The portions are large and the appetizers especially could do well for a family if you wanted to try a few different things! Everything was so flavorful and delicious, and the view wasn’t half bad, either!! The winter time I’m sure is beautiful, and I can only imagine how amazing that time is after a ski with some hot chocolate or cider. We will definitely be back!! ”
“ Super pretty area, so peaceful. The Bavarian has a wonderful deck and picnic tables, great food, and beautiful German architecture mixed with mountain ambiance in Carson National Forest. ”
“ A surprisingly delicious food. Everything I tasted was amazing! Service was great, you order at the counter and they will bring it out to you (at least during summer months) Price point was great considering the location! Owner was so helpful and sweet! We came back daily during our Taos visit. ”
“ What a fabulous place to eat and enjoy the views! The German Sausage Sampler was fantastic with three types of sausage, 2 types of mustards, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and red cabbage! The server was great; she was very nice and helpful. The weather was trying to decide if it would rain, and the cashier assured us we could move inside if it did. I'd highly recommend - if only for the views. But, you add in great food, a relaxed atmosphere, pleasant people, and you've got a winner! ”
“ Best spot on the mountain! The pretzel and carrot ginger soups was exactly what we needed to warm up a little and get right back on the lift! As a heads up, the line for food and drinks starts getting crazy at 10:30-11. It does not get any shorter until the lift closes at 3:50 but it moves pretty quickly! ”
